It is made of silicone so it grips the skin of the garlic and strips the garlic skin off of the garlic to reveal the garlic clove inside. I wish I had this years ago so my hands didn't end up smelling like garlic for hours after cooking.The garlic press worked great. It was easy to use and pressed the crushed garlic pulp through the holes of the garlic press for easy removal. The one feature about this garlic press that I really liked was that the center metal part of the garlic press with all of the holes in it was removable for easy cleaning.If you like to use fresh garlic while cooking, this is an essential tool for your kitchen. I am so happy that I found this garlic press. I am getting rid of my old one.
