Title: Know benefits of filing INS N 400 form!
Post by: nancymervin on December 19, 2012, 08:57:48 AM
Applicants applying for US Citizenship must have maintained continuous residence in the United States for at least five years immediately preceding the applicant's filing for citizenship with INS N 400 form (http://www.uscitizenship.info/articles/how-much-is-the-n-400-application-fee/index.html?r=freeadzforum.com-referral). Continuous residence is not the same thing as physically being present in the United States. An applicants must maintain status as a legal permanent resident (green card holder), but does not necessarily have to be physically in the United States to accomplish this.

If your parents were US citizens but you were not born in the US, you are still legally a US citizen by birthright. You may be able to prove your citizenship and claim it by filing immigration Form N600 (Application for Certificate of Citizenship).
