Yoga has helped me tremendously! The main reason I do it, is to keep me injury free! I had a terrible IT Band problem and doing yoga twice a week for 3-4 months, the injury slowly went away. Within 6 months is was completely gone. That may seem like a lot of time but I had the problem for over a year and half and none of the chirporators or ortheopedic surgeons offered much help.
The key for me is doing poses that allow me to open up my hip sockets and stretch my hip flexors and quads. Most yoga classes incorporate those type of postures/poses. There are also so many other poses that hit those areas. During the off season, I may only go once a week as I am not running as much but I do notice a difference so I may go back to twice a week....but definitely during tri season!

Maybe while you started with what you thought would be the best aerobic or other yoga exercise,like jogging, but you find your knees are not up to the task.But this this to adjust your mini goal and maybe your larger yoga exercise goal.
