So, Who's Barry Borthistle When He's Home?
Barry is TriVita's co-founder and former International President until he retired from the corporate world in 2006. He could have chosen a life of leisure. Instead he began the second exciting phase of his TriVita career as a Business Affiliate. He says, "I'm driven by a desire to help guide people towards greater health and wealth."
"As Co-founder of TriVita from day one, I know the company inside and out," he emphasizes. "I can personally attest to the integrity of the company and the character of the CEO, Michael Ellison. He kept every promise he ever made to me. I also think TriVita is in an incredible position to grow internationally."
When Michael decided to take TriVita international, he called Barry and said, "Barry, I need you."
"And that was the end of my so-called retirement," Barry told us with a grin. I'd say by the look on his face and the energy he excudes, that he was quite relieved. Barry's 67 years old, by the way, and quite proud of the fact that he hasn't needed a prescription drug in 30 years.
Barry believes TriVita is successful because it is a perfect hybrid. It combines the direct sales model with its strong product focus and a dynamic cooperative marketing approach designed to generate customers for Business Affiliates. And here's a thought that stuck out for me. "TriVita has taken the best from both worlds to develop the first company in the world that successfully separates customers who are only interested in products, from Business Affiliates who are primarily interested in building their business."
Having now reached the pinnacle of the achievement in a TriVita career, Presidential Director, Barry says "Being a Presidential Director allows me to create a larger platform to help others be successful."
Barry started out by saying, "I have both good news and bad. We'll do the bad first. Because the good is really good and makes the bad go away." lol
Basically, the bad news was not something we hadn't heard before. It all revolved around the economy. For example, he said that for the first time in history, there are more government jobs than manufacturing jobs in the US. (I know... unbelievable!) He quoted Stephen Roch as saying, "This international recession is even worse than I foresaw."
The good news was that these otherwise dismal conditions make the timing perfect for us. He went on to tell us a bit about some of his previous experience in marketing. And that he's only seen this scenario set itself up 2 times before in his life. In both cases there were 2 crucial factors at play.
1. We had a unique and highly sought after product that no one else had.
2. We were in a severe recession.
Both times he walked away with millions. In fact, with one company, he made $40 million dollars in one year.
This is what he's expecting to see again... and said... he never thought he would.
Even though TriVita is 10 years old, because of this unique set of circumstances, it's like we are getting in on a ground floor opportunity. Except with a well established and proven company!
Barry said, "When Michael Ellison approached me about founding TriVita 10 years ago, we didn't even have a product." And we sold a billion dollars last year. All because we are a media driven company with superior and unique products.
Why is Michael Taking TriVita International?
We got a few stats on what it takes to get a product registered in a country. For example, in Canada, it costs $30K to register EACH product and the process takes 6 to 8 months. It was interesting to see exactly what's involved, but unfortunately, I couldn't write fast enough at this point and don't recall many details. But it was, at least in part, some of the reason why much emphasis has been put into figuring out a way to go truly international.
Barry went on to tell us that what was needed to take TriVita international was a 'lead product' with a unique story. Well, we've go it.
Sonoran Bloom
- millions of people visit the Sonoran Desert each year, especially from Asia. It is the most fruitful desert in the world.
- third party clinical trials have already been conducted on the ingredients used in the product
- the product is organic - the Sonoran Desert is one of the least polluted patches of earth on this planet
- there are 6 huge companies presently bidding on (now I know you're going to kill me, but I can't remember what!) I just remember the gasp that went around the room.
- they have already set in motion the machine that will ensure that there will never be a shortage of product or a backlog of orders. And we already know that TriVita knows how to manage a product line. Nobody waits for their orders to be filled. Up here in Canada, everyone gets them within 2 or 3 days!
Nopalea, the First Sonoran Bloom Product
- a 32 oz bottle of liquid
- price is set at $39.95 and at an ounce a day, one bottle is a one month supply
- Barry had copies available of all the studies that had been done so far, so we had a quick look at that but it was a tad on the scientific side - I would like to have a more thorough, leisurely look someday
- primary function of Nopalea is to relieve inflammation in the body and he spoke a little about Michael's wife, Susan. Her feet were very swollen. Doctors prescribed a number of drugs, among them diuretics, but nothing relieved the swelling. When Nopalea was finally available, she began to take it and in 3 weeks the swelling was gone. This stuff works.
- the 2nd product will focus on the needs of diabetics and pre-diabetics, or anyone whose history indicates they are prone to the disease perhaps because of inheritance factors

What's the Number One Reason People Fail to Make Money?
Most don't view what they do as a business.
First, Barry asked us if we view TriVita as a REAL BUSINESS. Of course, all of us present did. And then he asked a couple of more direct questions. You do? Well, then you have a business name, right? It's registered. And you have a bank account in that name, with its own credit card attached, right? You have your own domain and website. Right? Well, then we started to realize we thought we had a real business, but maybe we could fine tune that a bit.
Barry loves to quote Robert Kiyosaki, who says, "The number one way to increase wealth is to start a part-time business," so you can see why he was so emphatic on the need to get serious about TriVita as a business. This is not just a 'program'. It's not a get-rich-quick scheme.' It's a business. One that can bring huge amounts of residual income into your life, but you must view it as a business and expect to continue viewing it as a business over the long term.
Basically, if we don't view TriVita as a business, we might just as well forget it. He kind of back tracked there and said, "Don't quit. I'm just telling you, you need to have the right attitude."
Barry shared with Canadian Business Affiliates some news that brought about a spontaneous round of applause. He explained some legal issues that have been going on in Canada. Now typically in our circle, that means 'Uh oh. We're done for.' But not with TriVita. THIS CASE HAS ALREADY BEEN WON. And we can quote the actual case number if our tax accountant ever gives us grief over this.
In the US, the purchase of customers from TriVita can be written off on your tax form as an expense successfully minimizing your taxes. In Canada, the government had taken issue with that. Well, Jim Holland of Winnipeg, former partner with Price Waterhouse, recently won his case in court and now all purchased MAP customers can be written off here in Canada, as well. That is a cause for great celebration!
How to Grow Your TriVita Business
Next came Barry's own steps that he uses to build his business - surprisingly easy. He listed nine of them for us, but there's one in particular that I thought WE CAN ALL USE.
How often have you been asked, "What do you do?" Well, there's your opportunity! You didn't even have to introduce the topic yourself.
Barry responds, "I'm in the preventative health business." (And guess who else is going to be saying that now? lol)
And if they say, "Oh... another mlm."
Barry quickly responds, "I hate mlm!" And explains why and how the mlm model differs from TriVita's Cooperative Marketing model. Remember, we are 90% customers - the end consumer who is not building a business. In mlm, the customers are usually the distributors, too, and so the distributors are basically paying themselves on the products they buy for themselves. LOL Yeah, hard to understand. The bottom line is that, TriVita is 90% customer. Mlm is 90% distributor. Not exactly a stable platform upon which to build a business!
Things to Know
1. March 26, 2009 - the big launch of Sonoran Bloom's first product, Nopalea.
2. The ability to resell product will launch in the US on April 1st. This ability already exists in Canada. We can purchase a case of product at a reduced price and resell physically if we like, or use it to introduce friends to products that may help them in their search for improved health.
3. March 26th is also the kick off for the 30 City Tour by TriVita's CEO and Chief Science Officer.
4. Barry Borthistle's Pre-Sonoran tour will hit Toronto on Feb 28th with both an afternoon and an evening meeting.
5. April 25th, Barry will be in Vancouver, BC at the MetroTown Hilton and his special guest will be Dr. Glen Anderson, MD.
- this doctor and Barry have already worked closely on another project since he's very open to natural products - this is when they made $40 million in a year.
- Barry just contacted him and asked him if he wants to do it again. I guess since he's going to be speaking in Vancouver - the answer was, "Yes."

My Final Impressions
I am very, very glad I made the effort to get there. Had to drive some pretty hairy winter roads for 5 hours, but that was quickly forgotten as the reality of this opportunity hit me. We are on the brink of a perfect marketing storm.
This is no half baked idea that Michael Ellison is bringing to the table just so he can squeeze a little more money out of a current market phenomena. This development is costing him a cool million!
